Kelly is 39, a mom of three, married to a United States Marine, and a personal trainer with a degree in exercise science. After losing 90 pounds following her third child, she spent years trying plans that didn't fit her life as a vegetarian of 27 years. During a bodybuilding prep she trained three hours a day, six days a week, ate around 900 calories, and ended up exhausted with a torn labrum in her shoulder.

Five months after a total hysterectomy, and not eating well, she came across Nikkiey Stott on Facebook and found herself agreeing with everything: fad diets and low carb aren't sustainable, endless cardio isn't the answer, and weight training matters. She joined WarriorBabe for the accountability, knowing it would be a marathon, not a sprint.

In two months Kelly lost 16 inches, 1.8% body fat and six pounds. What meant most to her, she says, is that her doctor took her off her blood pressure medication and began taking her off the anxiety medication she had been on for 15 years. She credits the meals, workouts, rally calls, Q&As and community, and says she feels better than she has in years.

Key takeaways

  • Kelly found that fad diets and low-carb plans didn't work for her because she couldn't sustain them.
  • She believes cardio alone isn't enough and that weight training to build muscle is essential.
  • Her bodybuilding prep of three hours of training a day and about 900 calories left her exhausted and injured with a torn shoulder labrum.
  • As a vegetarian of 27 years, she found meat-heavy plans like paleo and keto hard to follow.
  • She went in knowing there's no quick fix: it's a marathon, mistakes will happen, and the key is to keep pushing forward and not give up.
  • Her two-month results show why the scale isn't the whole story: 16 inches and 1.8% body fat lost, but only six pounds on the scale.
  • She says the accountability and community support were what she needed at that point in her life.

Questions answered

What results did Kelly get in her first two months with WarriorBabe?

Kelly says she lost 16 inches, 1.8% body fat and six pounds in two months.

Why did Kelly give up bodybuilding?

She was training six days a week for three hours a day, two of those hours cardio, and eating about 900 calories near the end of her prep. Her body was exhausted, she tore the labrum in her shoulder, and she gave up bodybuilding at that point.

Why was it hard for Kelly to follow diets like keto and paleo?

Kelly has been vegetarian for 27 years, so plans built around eating a lot of meat, like paleo and keto, were really hard for her to follow.

What happened with Kelly's medications?

Kelly shares that at a doctor visit, her doctor told her she no longer had high blood pressure and didn't think she needed the medication, and he then decided to try taking her off the anxiety medication she had been on for 15 years. She says she feels better than she has in years.

What did Kelly value most about WarriorBabe?

She points to the meals, the workouts, the rally calls, the question-and-answer sessions, the community and the affordability, and says the support from the group has been a blessing.

Kelly: Hey y'all, my name is Kelly. I'm 39 years old. I have three beautiful children. I am married to a United States Marine and I am in children's ministry. I've been a WarriorBabe for about two months now and I'm absolutely loving it.

When I started, I would say I'm more on the advanced level with macronutrients. I have been a personal trainer since back in 2011. After three kids, I was really overweight. I weighed about 220 pounds and I was like, I need to get my life in order. So I lost 90 pounds, and after that I really, really wanted to help other people lose weight and achieve their goals too.

So after being a trainer for a couple years, I decided to go to college and get a degree in exercise science. I have a bachelor's in exercise science. I've followed so many plans over the years. Being a vegetarian for 27 years makes it hard to follow some of them, especially the ones like paleo or keto. I can't eat all the meat and stuff, so it's really hard for me to follow that.

But three years ago, I was doing bodybuilding and I had a high-level trainer who I was working with. I was working out six days a week and I was doing three hours of working out a day, two of those being cardio. Near the end of my prep, I was only eating about 900 calories a day, and my body was pretty exhausted, to say the least. I ended up injuring myself. I tore my labrum in my shoulder, and I gave up bodybuilding at that point.

Before WarriorBabe, I had just had a total hysterectomy five months prior to signing up. At that time in my life, when I came across it, I wasn't eating right at all. I had kind of thrown everything I knew out the window and had just been enjoying food, when you can enjoy food the right way by eating the right things.

I was laying in my bed back May 5th, 2019, this year, and I was on Facebook just scrolling through, and I was like, who's this chick? She looks pretty awesome. She's pretty ripped up. For me, being used to being a bodybuilder, I really thought she had a great physique. So I wanted to see more about what this was.

I clicked on the link and I listened to Nikkiey talk, and the whole time she was talking, I was just saying, yes, yes, yes, yes. I just agreed with everything she was saying, because fad diets don't work. Low carbs, they don't work. You can't sustain yourself on that. And it's impossible to just do cardio, cardio, cardio. We have to weight train. It's so important to build those muscles.

So I was laying in bed and I was like, I'm just going to jump on board. I really want to do this. And I'm so glad that I did, because everything she says is so true. I needed this kind of accountability in my life right now. And I know nothing's a quick fix. Just like Nikkiey says, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. It takes time and you have to dedicate yourself to it. We've got to realize we're going to make mistakes. We're going to mess up, but just keep pushing forward and don't give up.

Since joining this WarriorBabe program, in two months I've lost 16 inches, 1.8% body fat and six pounds. And that's great, and that's awesome, and I'm super excited about that, because everybody wants to lose weight.

But the one thing that means so much to me is this. Last year I got on a high blood pressure medication, because my anxiety was just out of control. And I've been on anxiety and depression medication for 15 years. That's kind of weird, because I'm a really happy person, but I'm an anxious person too.

So I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and I was like, look, doc, I don't think I have high blood pressure anymore. He's like, you don't. And I was like, and my anxiety is under control. And he's like, well, I really don't think you need blood pressure medication anymore. And I'm like, yes, I don't want to take it anyway. And then he was like, let's just try taking you off of this anxiety medication that you've been on for so long. He's like, I feel like we're poisoning your body. And I was like, are you serious? And I'm here to tell you that I feel better than I have in years.

WarriorBabe has taught me so much. This community is amazing. The support that I feel from the group is just a blessing. It's so worth it to be a part of WarriorBabe because of the meals, the workouts, the rally calls, the question and answers, the community and the affordability.

So, ladies, if you are optimistic about wanting to give this a try, I can tell you that I am living proof that this program works, and not just for the outside, but the inside too. Thank you so much for taking your time to listen to me today, ladies. I hope you take care, and God bless.
