In this video

Ashley Tappman spent years counting calories, eating very low carb and barely eating at all, trying to get skinny. A former college athlete, she says all that restriction did was damage her metabolism and her self-confidence. She got so fed up that she took an entire year off from the gym.

Five weeks into WarriorBabe, things look different. She has leaned out without losing much weight, she can see muscle tone, and she feels stronger and more confident than she has in years, while eating more food than she ever has. She credits macro tracking, and the mindset work Nikkiey Stott starts with: finding your why, being honest about where you are, spotting your triggers and rebuilding confidence with positive affirmations.

If you have been stuck in the eat-less cycle, Ashley's story is a reminder that this is a marathon, not a sprint. She treats her macros like a science project, leans on the community calls, and plans to keep learning and progressing over the next months and year.

Key takeaways

  • Years of very low calories and very low carbs did not get Ashley the results she wanted and, in her words, damaged her metabolism and her self-confidence.
  • Within five weeks of tracking macros and eating more food than ever, Ashley leaned out and saw muscle tone without losing much weight.
  • The scale is not the whole story: Ashley's body changed and her strength and confidence improved even though her weight barely moved.
  • Start with mindset work: identify your why, be honest about where you are now and where you want to be, and recognize your triggers.
  • Positive affirmations and deliberately rebuilding confidence matter, because health and nutrition are a mental challenge as well as a physical one.
  • Treat your macros almost like a science project, adjusting and learning to produce the results you want.
  • Think of the process as a marathon, not a sprint: take your time, learn and grow.
  • Accountability from the community, weekly rally calls and live Q&A sessions with Nikkiey helped Ashley stay engaged and understand what she was doing.

Questions answered

Can you get leaner without the scale going down much?

Ashley says that in five weeks she leaned out and saw muscle tone while not losing much weight. She also felt stronger and more confident than she had in years.

Can eating more food help you lean out after years of dieting?

In Ashley's experience, yes. After years of counting calories and eating very little, she started tracking macros, is eating more food than she ever has, and has leaned out in five weeks.

Does extreme calorie restriction work for getting lean?

Ashley says practically starving herself never got her the results she wanted. She feels it only damaged her metabolism and her self-confidence.

Why does mindset matter for fat loss?

Ashley explains that health and nutrition are a mental aspect as well as a physical one, and if you cannot get there mentally, it is even harder to get there physically. Working on her why, her triggers and her confidence was a big part of her progress.

Full transcript

Ashley: Hi WarriorBabe. My name is Ashley Tappman. I am 30, from Kentucky. I currently work for the Department of Defense for the National Guard, but I am also in the process of joining the Army.

For me, I have always been one to follow a calorie-counting program, very low carb, and honestly very low food at all. I practically starved myself on a normal basis to try to get these results. Let's get skinny, let's get skinny. And I never could get there. I was a college athlete, and all that I ever did was destroy my metabolism. And on top of that, destroy my self-confidence in my body, in the way that I saw myself. So I felt horrible, and I was just so fed up. So fed up. Like, what's the point anymore?

I got to the point where I took an entire year off from the gym. Until recently, just five weeks ago, I found the WarriorBabe program via Facebook. A Facebook ad came through. I saw Nikkiey on there. I think she was swinging the ropes. And it just lit a fire underneath me, seeing her positivity and her energy. And let's face it, she looks great. And I just thought, this girl knows what she's doing.

For some reason, even though I had tried all these things before, I just felt like I have to try this. She seems like she knows what she is talking about. The girl's got it going on. So let's see what this can do for me. So I decided to join, and I was super excited. I was slightly nervous as well, because I had not been in the gym in a year. But I was also about to start my training for the military.

So I wanted something that was going to give me the results that I have always been wanting. That lean, toned, muscular, fit, healthy body. And so far, the results have been phenomenal. Just the way that I've seen my body change in five weeks, that's fantastic. I have leaned out, and I've really not lost much weight. But I'm seeing muscle tone, and I feel stronger and more confident than I have in the past few years.

And I'm eating more food than I've ever been able to eat before. Counting macros is phenomenal. I love it.

The other thing that I love the most about this program is, I have always had such a negative body image. What Nikkiey does is she starts you out from the basics. She makes you do exercises that help you figure out your inner why. Why are you doing this? What are your reasons? Why do you want to do this? She makes you take a deep look and really be honest with yourself about where you're currently at. Where you want to be. Where you see yourself. Your triggers. She teaches you positive affirmations. She teaches you how to literally rebuild your confidence. Because let's face it, health and nutrition is not just a physical aspect. It's a mental aspect as well. And if you cannot get there mentally, it's going to be even harder to get there physically.

That was another reason why I love this program so much already. It's been eye-opening and very educational for me. And I can't wait to see how much further I progress in the next three months, six months, even a year. Because she's taught me how to love every single step of the process. It's not a sprint. It's a marathon. Take your time. Learn. Grow. Play with your macros, almost like a science project, to produce the results that you want.

The Facebook community that we have is fantastic. All of these women on the rally calls that we have on Saturdays. And Nikkiey is just a firecracker. She lights you up with these amazing calls. And on Wednesdays, she does FaceTime with you, and you get to ask her questions. She'll literally answer anything. She takes the time to make sure that you are really understanding and getting what you need.

So I encourage every woman out there to join this program. Because if you are looking for accountability, if you are looking for results, this is the program that you need to follow. You will find it all here. Thanks, guys.
