In this video

Staying in shape doesn't stop when you're traveling. This video follows Nikkiey Stott and WarriorBabe team members Maggie and Andrea through a real day on their quarterly content shoot in Dallas. It starts at 5:45 in the morning and the gym comes first, as it always does.

The team does a pull workout for back, rear delts and biceps: dumbbell bent-over rows supersetted with dumbbell flys, plate-loaded T-bar rows, and machine pulldowns. Nikkiey trained without eating first, started fatiguing and losing form, and dropped the weight to keep her form right. After training she had a protein shake, then dark chocolate Kodiak protein pancakes.

You also see how eating works on a less structured day: high-protein drinkable yogurts, yogurt with granola, honey and blueberries, and a long-running egg white and bagel breakfast. The day ends with the team reflecting on what matters most about these trips: the people, the in-person WarriorBabe moments, and making content that helps more women.

Key takeaways

  • A pull workout hits back, rear delts and biceps; the team did four sets of 12 dumbbell bent-over rows supersetted with 12 dumbbell flys taken to failure.
  • Plate-loaded T-bar rows for four sets of 10 to 12 reps and machine pulldowns for four sets of 10 rounded out the workout.
  • If you are fatiguing quickly and losing your form, drop the weight, because pushing heavy with bad form is counterproductive.
  • Training without food made Nikkiey burn out faster than usual, which is why she doesn't normally work out without eating first.
  • Nikkiey's post-workout shake was protein powder with almond milk, blueberries, banana and glutamine, followed by Kodiak protein pancakes once she was ready.
  • Drinkable yogurts are an easy way to get in protein, at 30 grams of protein, 18 grams of carbs and 4 grams of fat.
  • Eating on travel days is less structured than at home: mainly lunch and dinner, with simple snacks like yogurt with granola, honey and blueberries.
  • A repeatable breakfast makes things simple; one team member has eaten egg whites with one whole egg plus a bagel and cream cheese for two years straight.

Questions answered

What exercises are in a pull workout for women?

In this video the pull workout targets back, rear delts and biceps. The team did dumbbell bent-over rows supersetted with dumbbell flys for four sets of 12, plate-loaded T-bar rows for four sets of 10 to 12, and machine pulldowns for four sets of 10.

What should I do if I lose form during a workout because I'm tired?

Nikkiey drops the weight. She was fatiguing quickly after training without food, and since losing form is counterproductive, she lowered the weight so she could keep proper form.

What is a good post-workout shake?

Nikkiey's post-workout shake was made with almond milk, blueberries, banana, glutamine and protein powder. She followed it with dark chocolate Kodiak protein pancakes.

What are easy high-protein snacks when you're traveling?

The team likes drinkable yogurts, which have 30 grams of protein, 18 grams of carbs and 4 grams of fat. Another go-to is yogurt with granola, honey and blueberries.

How do you eat on a busy travel or work day?

Nikkiey explains that it's not as structured as when she's home. After her morning pancakes she mainly has lunch and dinner, with a few snacks from the pantry in between.

Questions this video helps answer, with what Nikkiey says across everything WarriorBabe teaches.

  • Protein for Women

What are good high-protein snacks to keep on hand?

Nikkiey's go-to list is short and easy to find: hard-boiled eggs, protein bars, beef sticks and Greek yogurt, most of which you can grab at a gas station. On the WarriorBabe work-trip video, the team adds drinkable yogurts and yogurt topped with granola, honey and blueberries for something sweeter.

Is good form more important than lifting heavier?

Yes. Nikkiey's order is form first, then connection to the muscle, then weight. If you can't feel the target muscle working, adding weight doesn't make it stronger; other muscles take over and your joints pay for it. Drop the weight until you feel the right muscle, then build from there.

Full transcript

Nikkiey: So today's workout, we are doing a pull workout. So what I just had to do is I had to drop some weight because I am fatiguing out pretty quickly. I haven't had any food.

Nikkiey: This is dark chocolate Kodiak pancakes.

Nikkiey: Good morning, you guys. Come spend the day with me, Maggie and Andrea. We are in Dallas, Texas right now. We are here for our quarterly shoots that we do to film content, and we are going to go have a good workout and go film content. We head home tonight, so let's go. Always put God first in the morning.

Nikkiey: Oh, hello.

Guest: Hey, good morning. Just looking for our Uber ride.

Nikkiey: Where are we going?

Guest: We're going to Lifetime this morning. Oh, we're connected, so you have 8 minutes.

Nikkiey: What are we doing at Lifetime?

Guest: Whatever we want.

Nikkiey: As long as it's building muscle, right?

Nikkiey: Hi. Good morning. Did you sleep well?

Andrea: I did sleep very well. I wanted to continue that sleep.

Nikkiey: Yes. Same. Likewise. What are you making?

Andrea: So this is, you just take lemon and then you combine it with turmeric.

Nikkiey: Are you doing this every morning?

Andrea: Yeah. Turmeric is a natural way just to lower inflammation in general. So I'm like, it can't hurt, right?

Nikkiey: By the way, people, she's very much a morning person and me and Maggie are not, so we apologize in advance.

Andrea: That's because I had a turmeric shot.

Nikkiey: She's already giggled more than I will the whole day.

Andrea: See, I'm going to use Azure water so you're getting hydrated. Right? You can add some more water. Okay, it's not a shot. I guess I just added a lot of water. I'm not going to shoot this much.

Nikkiey: Good morning, everyone. Come and spend the day in the life of Maggie, Andrea and I while we're on our work trip. We are filming content, so you guys will come behind the scenes with us and just see what it looks like to have fun, balance our meals, get a workout in, and just all of the behind the scenes. We'll start with the gym. Come along. We always start with the gym. Also, by the way, it's 5:45 in the morning, and what time did we go to bed?

Guest: She went to bed at 1 and woke up earlier than all of us. This one.

Nikkiey: So today's workout, we are doing a pull workout, meaning that we are hitting some back, some rear delts and some biceps. We're doing four sets of how many dumbbell bent-over rows?

Guest: 12.

Nikkiey: Yeah. And then we're doing a superset with the dumbbell flys, 12 reps. Yeah, to failure. Four sets of 12 reps. Maggie's doing it to failure.

Nikkiey: What are you doing?

Guest: Oh, I'm just doing my TRX warm-up right now.

Nikkiey: Thank you. And what kind of TRX are you doing?

Guest: So with TRX I do full mobility. So I started doing this, which I love, and I'm using my biceps. And then after that I start rope jumping.

Nikkiey: She's a TRX queen. Have fun.

Nikkiey: So we're doing T-bar row next on this machine, plate loaded. And we're doing four sets of 12 reps.

Guest: Yeah, 10 to 12.

Nikkiey: 10 to 12. Let's go.

Nikkiey: Yeah, Hoist machine. Sure. Pulldowns, we're doing four sets, 10 reps.

Nikkiey: So what I just had to do is I had to drop some weight because I am fatiguing out pretty quickly. I haven't had any food, and I feel some type of way about that. I don't do that ever, but since we're here and traveling and we're getting a workout in early morning, I was unable to put some food in my mouth. So I am burning out pretty quickly. What's happening is I'm losing my form, and that's pretty counterproductive. So I'm dropping the weight to get proper form.

Nikkiey: That's a wrap. We're done.

Guest: We did a full day. I did full body. Bye bye.

Guest: Chairs. Look at that. The sun's out. We need to at least take five minutes. We left when the sun was not out.

Guest: What? We're supposed to walk? Okay. We're shooting content right now. We've got like six hours. We're always working. Shoot.

Nikkiey: We're still back outside because we're going to partake in Maggie's grounding exercises.

Maggie: Yeah, I mean, I've gotten a little woo-woo in my old age.

Nikkiey: Yeah, she is famous on YouTube for it.

Maggie: You have to have sunlight in your eyeballs and grass on your feet.

Nikkiey: Yes.

Nikkiey: All right, so I just got done taking my shower. Now I'm going to do my hair and my makeup and get ready to start work, start shooting some more content. So you're going to see that we're shooting content here in a vlog and showing the behind the scenes in a vlog while shooting more content for work. Interesting. Feels like the matrix of a video camera.

Nikkiey: By the way, what you guys didn't see me grab after the workout while we were in the cafe, because my battery died, was a protein shake. It was a Dynamic shake from Lifetime. It is with almond milk, blueberries, banana, glutamine and protein powder. So that was considered my post-workout shake. And as soon as I'm done doing my hair and makeup, not probably, definitely, because I'm hungry, I am going to make some Kodiak protein pancakes.

Guest: This is my go-to Starbucks order. Venti hot latte. Quad, meaning four shots. Three sugar-free vanilla syrups. Almond milk. Sugar-free syrup.

Nikkiey: This is dark chocolate Kodiak pancakes. So good.

Guest: Oh, that is good.

Nikkiey: So here's the team. Here's our amazing creative director.

Guest: Hello.

Nikkiey: Here's my amazing right-hand woman, my assistant. Here is, you already know who this is. And here is the mastermind behind our work today, head of marketing.

Guest: Hi.

Nikkiey: We are currently all just brainstorming. Say hi, guys. Our amazing film crew.

Guest: This is my first cup, I swear.

Nikkiey: Yeah, right.

Guest: What's the hardest part about these film days for you?

Nikkiey: I have to endure a lot of patience, because I just want to breeze through and stay in flow with the content, but working with many different people, we all have to stay synchronized in what we're doing.

Guest: What do you usually eat and snack on, on set days?

Nikkiey: Well, you guys saw me eat Kodiak pancakes this morning, and then I really just have lunch and dinner. I don't really have much in between other than some snacks out of the pantry, but it's not as structured as it normally is when I'm home.

Guest: What are your go-to snacks?

Nikkiey: These are my go-to snacks. I have yogurt, and then in the pantry there's granola and honey and some blueberries. That's my favorite. Then I'll balance it with having some of these.

Guest: Yeah, we have these.

Nikkiey: These are really good ways to get in your protein, drinkable yogurts, and the macros are really friendly. There's only 18 grams of carbs, 30 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat. They're delicious.

Guest: Can I have it?

Guest: Something else that I like is having egg whites and one whole egg. If you guys have been following me for a while, this is my breakfast I've had for two years straight: a bagel and cream cheese. Three, two, one.

Nikkiey: All right, that is a wrap. We are done with our Dallas shoot. We are done working. We are done having fun. But before we close out, we want to share our most fun experience that we individually had during this trip.

Maggie: For me, it's about the people. I'm getting emotional.

Nikkiey: Oh, Maggie.

Maggie: Just spending time with all these guys. We sat around the fire one night, talked about life, what's important to us, some good stuff. Blessed to be here.

Guest: My favorite part was the moments that we weren't having to do anything, just that organic moment, spending the girls' nights together and just laughing and being free to be our quirky selves.

Nikkiey: And I would say that my fun moment was meeting all of the WarriorBabes and having that experience in person and being able to hug them in person. WarriorBabe literally comes to life each time that we do those events. And then creating the content. I'm sorry, guys. Creating content, it's so much more than just, oh, we're creating content, we're content creators. We go into each one of these thinking about how we can reach more women, and that one that still needs to get into our ecosystem. We think about that and how we can resonate and empathize and also tell you guys what you need to do. No fluff. So, yeah. It's all about those moments.

Guest: I agree. I agree with both of you.

Nikkiey: Thanks for spending the day with us. Bye, guys.
