The short answer
Biofeedback is your body's internal report card: the signals it sends about how well it's coping with your training, meals and sleep. Nikkiey tracks six markers, energy, sleep, hunger, digestion, mood, and performance and recovery, because they show whether your fat loss plan is actually working, often before the scale does.

The full answer
On Ep. 295, Nikkiey explains that biofeedback isn't a lab test or a fitness app. It's how your body tells you whether it's thriving or just surviving. She calls the scale reactive and biofeedback predictive. Your weight can swing with water, hormones, sodium, inflammation and bowel movements, so it doesn't always tell the truth. Your biofeedback tells you whether the process is working. As she puts it, you can lose 10 pounds and feel like garbage, or lose zero pounds, gain strength, lose inches and feel like a new person. That's why WarriorBabe coaches on quality of life rather than the number on the scale.
She also describes what poor biofeedback looks like. You're eating clean and training five days a week, but you're exhausted, craving sugar nonstop, snapping at your family, waking at 2 a.m. wired, sore for days, bloated and constipated, and gaining weight while eating less. Nikkiey is clear that this isn't a discipline problem. She calls it dysregulation and survival mode, and a sign to stop pushing and start restoring.
To start using it, she suggests:
- Build awareness with a coach or a notebook.
- Rate yourself one to five on each of the six markers, daily or weekly, whichever suits you.
- Jot quick notes, such as "woke up grumpy" or "craving sugar at 3 p.m." This becomes your dashboard.
- Look for trends, then pick one bucket at a time to work on.
If your plan is leaving you depleted, that's information, not a personal failure. When your biofeedback is thriving, Nikkiey says, the results follow and they last.

The Scale & Tracking Progress
How can I track progress without the scale?
Track the changes the scale can't show: waist and body measurements, side-by-side progress photos, how your clothes fit, and whether you're lifting more than two weeks ago. Nikkiey also watches energy, sleep, cravings, recovery and habits like hitting protein and showing up to train. The scale becomes supporting data, not the decision maker.

The Scale & Tracking Progress
Why isn't the scale moving when I'm strength training?
The scale often stalls with strength training because you can build muscle while losing fat at the same time, so your weight barely changes while your body composition does. Nikkiey explains that muscle is denser and takes up less space than fat. Water retention, glycogen, your cycle and hormonal shifts can also stall or spike the number.

The Scale & Tracking Progress
How often should I weigh myself?
Daily, if you can stay neutral about the number. Nikkiey suggests weighing every morning and comparing weekly averages, or weighing two to three times a week if daily weigh-ins trigger you. Guests Susan Niebergall and Paula Ciarniello also favor daily weighing, because a single weekly weigh-in can land on a water-retention day and mislead you.
