How to Pack Protein for Travel: Nikkiey's Florida Vlog

Chapters

In this video

This is a rare vlog from Nikkiey Stott, filmed on the first day of a weekend trip to Florida to meet the 1-on-1 coaching clients she has worked with for two to three years. You'll see her 5:30 a.m. start, beginning with the reading and gratitude habits from the WarriorBabe VIP 80-day challenge, then the trip to the airport with Starbucks in hand.

If you've ever noticed that most food on the road is carbs and fats, the packing section is the useful part. Nikkiey and Sarah, WarriorBabe's executive director, show how they bring protein with them: pre-measured protein powder labeled clearly for TSA, travel packs of greens and protein bars.

The rest is a fun look at real life on the go. There's a layover turned into a workout, with lunges down the hallway and decline push-ups on a bench, followed by arrival at the house in Panama City, gumbo on the stove and the women meeting in person.

Key takeaways

  • Nikkiey starts her travel morning with the WarriorBabe VIP challenge habits: reading 10 pages and writing down what she is grateful for.
  • When you travel, most of the food you'll find is mainly carbs and fats, so pack protein sources to bring with you.
  • Measure out your protein powder ahead of time with a scoop so you have exactly enough for the whole trip.
  • Write "protein" on your bag of powder before going through TSA so there's no confusion at security.
  • Nikkiey packs travel packs of her daily greens, which she says she takes for digestion, energy, bloating and immune and heart health.
  • Protein bars are an easy extra to throw in your bag for travel days.
  • Use airport waiting time to move: Nikkiey did walking lunges down the hallway and decline push-ups off a bench during her layover.

Questions answered

How do I get enough protein when I travel?

Nikkiey points out that most food you'll eat while traveling is mainly carbs and fats, so she packs her own protein. She brings pre-measured protein powder for the whole trip, plus protein bars.

How do I bring protein powder through airport security?

Nikkiey's tip is to write "protein" on the label of the bag so TSA knows what you're carrying.

What are the WarriorBabe VIP challenge requirements?

In the 80-day New Year, Stronger Me challenge Nikkiey describes, members earn their check mark for the day by reading 10 pages and writing down their gratitude at some point in the day.

Can you work out at the airport?

Yes. During a layover Nikkiey accepted a challenge to do walking lunges down the hallway and finished with decline push-ups using a bench.

Full transcript

Nikkiey: What's up, you guys, good morning. It's currently 5:30 on a Thursday, February 3rd, and today I'm traveling to Florida to go hang out with the women I have coached for two to three years. This is so exciting because we're all going to be able to meet in person, or see each other again, because some of us have met. It's just a really cool experience.

I'm going to take you guys along for the ride, so stay tuned. To start my morning off: in the WarriorBabe VIP we're currently running an 80-day New Year, Stronger Me challenge. The requirements to earn stars, or a green check mark at the end of the day, are to read 10 pages and to do morning gratitude, or just gratitude at some point in your day, and write it down. So I'm going to do that now and start my morning that way.

Heading to the airport with my fantastic, best-looking Uber driver, and of course Starbucks in hand. Making it through security so quick. That was not like past travel experiences. So, you know, time to get more Starbucks. Let's go.

All right, guys, so we wanted to show you some tips for packing more protein, because when you travel, everything you're probably going to consume when it comes to food is mainly carbs and fats. So we're going to show you some things we packed so you can take those tips when you travel.

I eat an obscene amount of these a day. This is my vegan protein from 1st Phorm. I have a scooper and I measured this out. This will get me through our whole trip. And one thing you want to make sure you do when you go through TSA, so they don't think you're smuggling drugs, is write "protein" on the label.

Sarah: Yeah.

Nikkiey: And then these are my greens. You brought your greens with you?

Sarah: Yeah.

Nikkiey: So 1st Phorm, which is awesome, guys, carries them, and all the links to the things we've packed and use will be in the description below. You guys know I take Opti-Greens and Opti-Reds. These help with digestion, they help with increasing your energy, they help with decreasing your bloat, and these help with more immune health, heart health, all that kind of stuff. So I take these daily, but they have to-go travel packs, which is bomb. I also packed some protein bars.

Guest: Guys, look, you showed up!

Nikkiey: Sorry! Hi! Yay! Yo, yo, yo! Here we go! Here we go! Let's go!

We're writing up tomorrow's workout. They don't know what they're in for.

We've made it to the ground. So this is one stop to our final destination. We have one more to go. Let's go. Takeoff, round two.

These aren't nuts.

Sarah: You're eating corn.

Nikkiey: I'm eating corn nuts. That's why it's one gram of fat. No protein. The whole vlog is going to be about me eating corn nuts. They're delicious.

Lines. I'm hungry.

Guest: What's going on, Nikkiey?

Nikkiey: You know, Sarah just challenged me to do lunges all the way down. So we're accepting the challenge, and we're making it happen.

Sarah: I wish you were out of breath.

Nikkiey: All right, now what?

Sarah: Are you out of breath?

Nikkiey: Yeah.

Sarah: You have to hurdle over the shuttle.

Nikkiey: Over the van?

Sarah: Yeah. Or you have to deadlift. Think she thinks you're a marvelous superhero? You have to deadlift the bench.

Nikkiey: Let me just whip out my cape.

Sarah: How about you do some decline push-ups? Get it, Nikkiey. Oh my god. Now I'm impressed.

Just keep doing it until Michelle gets here. It's 25 minutes.

Nikkiey: We have officially made it. We have another hour and a half until we have to get to our final destination, which is Panama City. So now we're just hanging out, waiting, having a good old time, working out, doing some exercises, keeping it real. Why is there a trailer right there?

Hello? Hello? Hi!

Guest: Hi! Hello! How are you?

Nikkiey: Well, thanks for arranging this. Wee! Oh, me too. Very organized. So pretty. Do we have a coffee maker here? Woohoo!

Look, we got egg whites. What? This is a WarriorBabe house, let's go. What are you making?

Guest: Some gumbo. Lots of veggies. Chicken.

Nikkiey: Is this a famous recipe of yours?

Guest: Nope. It's from a recipe book. We're just going all in. The Defined Dish.

Nikkiey: I love it. Yay!

Guest: Oh my god! Woohoo! Oh my god, that's so awesome.

Nikkiey: So much energy! Woo! I love it!

Guest: I love all your videos!

Nikkiey: Oh my gosh, I know! This is crazy to me. Oh! Hi, Carlisle. Good to meet you!

Guest: Nice to meet you! Hi! So fun!

Nikkiey: Hi! You guys made it!

Guest: You made the show, though! You made the show, though! You're at the airport! Coach.

Nikkiey: I'm a great coach. I was just trying to read it. Oh, it says warrior. Awesome. That's amazing.

Goodnight, everybody.

Guest: Goodnight. Goodnight.
