This short highlight reel pulls together some of Nikkiey Stott's most practical mindset advice for women who want to lose body fat and build muscle. Her starting point: your mindset has to be supportive. If it isn't, you won't take the actions you need or follow through when progress slows down.
If you feel too busy all year long, Nikkiey's challenge is simple. Look at your phone's screen time and how long you spend scrolling social media. That is where your time is. She also points out that you already know the basics. You need to eat better, move your body, clear out the things at home that don't support you, and get to the weight rack if you want to build muscle.
Nikkiey says wanting to look better is a perfectly fine reason to start, but it isn't the whole story. The habits you build now shape your health for decades, and she sees strength training as especially important heading into menopause. Doubts are normal, she says. Don't let other people's opinions or an "I can't" mindset push you into self-sabotage. Mindset books, even ones that have nothing to do with fitness, can help you think "I can do this."
Key takeaways
- Your mindset has to support you, not work against you, before you can take action and follow through on the results you want.
- If you always feel too busy, check your phone's screen time and how long you spend scrolling social media, because that is time you can use for your workouts.
- You already know you need to eat better, move your body and work out a set number of times a week, so the real work is taking those actions.
- When you're starting out, get rid of the things in your home environment that don't support your goals and choose better options.
- If you want to build more muscle, go use the weight rack.
- Wanting fat loss for looks is fine, but the habits you build now set the course of your health for the rest of your life.
- Nikkiey explains that strength training matters especially as you head into menopause, because in her view it shapes where your health will be in 20 years.
- Doubts are normal, but don't let other people's opinions talk you out of doing the right thing, because sitting in an "I can't" mindset leads to self-sabotage.
Questions answered
How can I find time to work out if I'm always busy?
Nikkiey challenges you to look at your phone's screen time and how much time you spend scrolling social media. She says that is where you'll find the time.
Is it wrong to want to lose fat just to look better?
No. Nikkiey says there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel better in your skin, and most people start that way. She adds that fat loss and building habits also matter a great deal for your overall health.
Why does strength training matter as I approach menopause?
Nikkiey explains that strength training becomes really important in phases like menopause, especially if you're not eating enough or don't have much muscle. In her view, it paves the path for where your health will be 20 years from now.
Is it normal to doubt whether I can actually do this?
Yes. Nikkiey says she had doubts along her own journey too. She stayed strong by being her own support system and staying focused on how badly she wanted to reach her goal.
Why does mindset matter so much for fat loss?
Nikkiey says that if you sit in an "I can't" mindset, going to the gym and eating the right foods gets much harder and you'll self-sabotage in many ways. She recommends mindset books, even non-fitness ones, to help you frame things as "I can do this."

Nikkiey: Real quick, the only ask I could ever have of you guys is to help spread the word so we can help more women lose body fat, build muscle, reach their goals, and feel insanely confident. The only way we can do that is if you rate, review, and share this podcast. So the single thing I ask you to do is leave a review. It will take you 10 seconds, and it will mean the absolute world to me and may change the world of someone else.
When you have women around you with a can-do attitude, guess what? You're going to have a can-do attitude.
You have to have your mindset on board in a supportive way in order to take the actions you want and then follow through on the results you want to achieve. It has to be supportive. It cannot be non-supportive.
If you are somebody who constantly says you are too busy on the reg, like every single one of the 365 days of the year is just busy in general, look, I challenge you to do this one thing. I challenge you to look at your screen time on your phone. I challenge you to look at how much time you're spending scrolling on social media. Right then and there, I can tell you, I just found you time. I just found you your time.
It's not going to be, "Here are your macro numbers, and here's your workout schedule to follow." These are mental things you have to work through to create longevity, and to keep taking action when the slow months come.
Because these are all things you know you need to do. You know you need to eat better. You know you need to move your body. You know you need to work out X amount of times a week. You know those things. So it's just on you to take those actions. If you're starting out on your journey, you know you have to figure out how to eat better and get rid of the things in your environment at home that are not supporting you. You know you have to choose better options in order to reach a goal. You know that if you want to build more muscle and you're just starting your fitness journey, you need to go hit up the weight rack.
It's not just about appearance. While many people focus on fat loss for aesthetic reasons, it's also so freaking important for your overall health, you guys. Starting out, for sure, we all do this. We want fat loss and to feel better in our skin for the looks. There's nothing wrong with that, by the way. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, it's not what it's all about. What you do now matters.
How I changed my life around at 25, from the habits I was stuck in to the new habits I've created, will forever change the trajectory of my health for the rest of my life. So sure, at the beginning, 100%, we all do it because we want to feel better, look better and feel more confident. But it's not just about that. It's not all about that, you guys. It is so important for your overall health to kick any bad habits, like not eating enough, or not having much muscle tone on your body when you hit a phase of life like menopause, where it's really important to strength train, because it literally paves the path of your future health trajectory.
You could be in menopause and never have worked out a day in your life, and that's going to pave the path of where you are at in 20 years. Are eating right and working out going to help me for the better of my future? The answers are yes. If it's not going to help me for the better of my future, it can't help me for the better of my future.
It's totally okay to have those doubts, especially if you are a strong individual. I'm a very strong individual. Did I have thoughts about whether I could actually do this along my journey? Absolutely. Did I have some doubts? Absolutely. But I kept strong in myself and was my own support system, because I wanted so badly to accomplish this and do something outside of myself. Those were the things I had to work towards, build and develop within, and achieve.
Things I'd never done before. So of course you're going to have those doubts. But you can't allow multiple people to come at you with their own opinions or concerns about things that are actually the right thing for you to be doing. You will get where you want to be. But your journey is going to be so much harder when it comes to taking action, going to the gym and eating the right foods. You will self-sabotage in so many ways if you are sitting in that low vibration and that low energy of "I can't."
So just switch your mindset, and these books are going to dramatically help you with that. They may not have any relation to fitness, but they can help you so much to frame your mindset in a way of "I can do this."
Real quick, the only ask I could ever have of you guys is to help spread the word so we can help more women lose body fat, build muscle, reach their goals, and feel insanely confident. The only way we can do that is if you rate, review, and share this podcast.
So the single thing I ask you to do is leave a review. It will take you 10 seconds, and it will mean the absolute world to me and may change the world of someone else.
