This short episode pulls together some of Nikkiey Stott's best quick advice on setting big goals and actually reaching them. The core message is to stop judging your journey week to week or even month to month. What keeps you disciplined is the year-to-year progress and the bigger result you're building with your body.
Nikkiey covers why there's no better time to start than right now, even in your busiest season. She explains how choosing to start strength training and change your habits at menopause can shift your health trajectory for the rest of your life. She also talks about the doubts that come up along the way, even for strong people, and why you can't let other people's opinions pull you off a path you know is right.
She finishes with practical moves. Sit down with your family, own where you're at and ask for their support. Get back on course today instead of tracking one day and skipping the next. And on vacation, eat healthy options during the day and enjoy a sensible free meal at night, so you come home feeling accomplished instead of behind.
Key takeaways
- Measure your progress year to year instead of week to week or month to month, because the big-picture result is what keeps you disciplined.
- Start now, even in a busy season, because if you can stay consistent when life is busiest you can do it when things slow down.
- Nikkiey explains that choosing to start strength training and turn around your habits at menopause can change your health trajectory for the rest of your life.
- Expect doubts about whether you can reach your goal, even if you're a strong person, and don't let other people's opinions talk you out of doing the right thing.
- Sit down with your partner and kids, take ownership of where you're at, explain you're doing this for yourself and the family, and ask for their support and words of encouragement if you slip.
- Get back on course today rather than tracking and training on and off, because what you do now compounds, good or bad, over the next three weeks, three months and six months.
- On vacation, focus on healthy options during the day and enjoy a free meal at night, keeping it smart, like an entree and a dessert.

Consistency & Mindset
How do I get back on track after falling off for weeks?
Start today, not Monday. Nikkiey says to skip the guilt, then simplify: commit to three strength workouts this week and hit your protein goal. Nikkiey: Real quick, the only ask I could ever have of you guys is to help spread the word so we can help more women lose body fat, build muscle, reach their goals, and feel insanely confident. And the only way we can do that is if you rate, review, and share this podcast. So the single thing I ask you to do is leave a review. It will take you 10 seconds, and it will mean the absolute world to me and may change the world of someone else.
This is where you've got to remind yourself of the big-picture results that you are going after. Stop looking at your journey on a week-to-week basis of progress, and even a month-to-month basis of progress. What's going to keep you disciplined is the year-to-year progress, and what you are working on making with your body, and the results that you are seeking to accomplish. I challenge you to look at those few things before I dive into a couple of tactics that you can take away if you are planning on starting your fitness journey in the summer, or in the busy months in general.
Okay. But I will remind you, there's no better time to start than right now. Because if you can do it in the busiest of busy seasons, then you're going to be able to do it in the slow seasons as well.
And they start off at the beginning of June with X amount of push-ups and planks, and it gradually gets harder as they get through the rest of the month. And so by the end of the month, they are going to see how much stronger they got with planks and push-ups, because they consistently did these things that we told them to do on a daily basis throughout the month. And bam.
If you, at menopause, since we're here on this example, decide to do something different at this point in your life, and you decide to start strength training and decide to turn around all of your bad habits, that path that you go on is going to forever change the trajectory of the health that you're on for the rest of your life. You could be so strong at 70, 80 years old. If you make the decision now, what you do now matters for the rest of your health trajectory. So it's not just about looking awesome. Cool, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not all about that. It's so important for your overall health.
You have some doubts, natural doubts about things, about yourself, and whether you will be able to accomplish those things. It's totally okay to have that, especially if you are a strong individual. Like for me, I'm a very strong individual. Did I have those thoughts of whether I could actually do this along my journey? Absolutely. Did I have some doubts? Absolutely. But I kept strong in myself, being the support system to myself, because I wanted so badly to accomplish this and do something that was outside of me, right? Those were more of the things I had to work towards and build and develop within and achieve, right? Things I've never done before. So of course you're going to have those doubts, but you can't allow multiple people to come at you with their own opinions or concerns about things when you're actually doing the right thing.
Communication is a game changer. Especially in this situation, this circumstance, when your loved ones are there in your house with you. If you can just sit down with them, especially if it's your husband, and have your kids there, and be like, guys, I want to do this so bad for myself. And you take ownership and responsibility for where you're at. And you're like, dude, I've been eating like shit. We're eating pizza every weekend, you know. And then say, I want to do this for the family. I want to do this for me, and I want to do this for the family. I want us all to have a better future health-wise, longevity, all of this stuff. And hey, can I have your support? Right? If I fail, if I mess up, can I have your support there? Can I have some words of affirmation, like, yo, one day, bump in the road, whatever, you got it, you can do it. Them saying that out loud creates a better energetic field between you and your loved ones.
If you get back on course today, rather than allowing yourself to just go with the ebbs and flows of the last couple of days, like, oh, I'm going to track today, but I'm not going to track tomorrow. I'm going to work out today, but I don't end up working out tomorrow because I allow all these other things to come into play. That could literally put you 10 steps behind your results in the next three weeks, and so on and so forth. What you decide to do now will compound, good or bad, in the next three weeks, three months and six months.
If you can focus on healthy options throughout your days and then enjoy free meals at night, keeping it relatively smart, like an entree and a dessert afterwards, you will come home post-vacation, post-travel, and feel so damn empowered and accomplished. And guess what? With that feeling, you'll believe in yourself more, that you can actually do this with every vacation moving forward. It's as simple as that.
Real quick, the only ask I could ever have of you guys is to help spread the word so we can help more women lose body fat, build muscle, reach their goals and feel insanely confident. And the only way we can do that is if you rate, review and share this podcast. So the single thing I ask you to do is leave a review.
