Ep. 224: Why Manifestation Isn't Working for You and What Helps

You have set the goals, made the vision board and put in the effort, and the results still don't match. In this episode Nikkiey Stott sits down with her own energy coach, Candace Tranter, an integrative energy healer and elite performance coach with over 23 years of experience. Candace shares a simple formula for manifestation and explains why you can put in 100% effort and only get a 10% result. In her view, the body's fight-flight responses work hard to keep you safe from past pain, and that protection quietly sabotages what you say you want.

They get practical about what to do when you are stressed. Candace walks through slow nose breathing, getting your feet on the ground, softening your body and asking yourself what you actually want. She also explains how to listen to what your body is telling you by giving a sensation a shape, color, taste or smell. Then she covers why you need to make room to receive what you ask for, and why being able to accept a compliment matters.

For the new year, Candace shares her daily approach: five to ten minutes each morning to notice the beliefs and words getting in your way, setting both specific and non-specific goals, and visualizing how it will feel. Nikkiey connects this to her own bodybuilding prep, where she saw herself in her stage body months before she got there, and to her belief that you can work toward a goal from a place of already being worthy instead of fixing something that is wrong.

  • Candace's formula says the time it takes you to manifest something equals your skill multiplied by work plus focus, so a big gap between effort and result points to something underneath holding you back.
  • In Candace's view, the body's fight-flight responses try to keep you safe from past pain and can sabotage goals that feel far from your current reality.
  • When you are stressed, take a few slow, deep breaths in and out through the nose, get your feet on the ground, soften your shoulders and then ask yourself what you want.
  • Get present by looking at something around you, like a flower, to bring your body into the here and now before you visualize the result you want.
  • To understand a sensation in your body, sit with it and ask what shape, color, smell or taste it has and what it wants, which makes it tangible so it can be released.

In Candace's words

  • What happens with the physical body is we need to accept it exactly as it is before we can transform it into something else.

Common questions

Why doesn't manifestation work for me?

Candace explains that you can put in full effort and only get a fraction of the result when fight-flight responses from past pain are running underneath. The body tries to keep you safe from getting hurt again, so it sabotages the goal, and people often stop going after what they want.

How can I calm my nervous system quickly when I'm stressed?

Candace recommends slow, deep breaths in and out through the nose, getting your feet on the ground, and softening your shoulders and body. Remind yourself that in this moment you are safe, then ask yourself what you want the outcome to be.

What are signs that your nervous system is dysregulated?

According to Candace, anxiety, rising blood pressure, not sleeping and not eating are all signs the body is not regulated. She says the body communicates through discomfort when something is off.

How do I figure out what my body is trying to tell me?

Candace suggests sitting with the sensation and asking whether it has a shape, a color, a smell or a taste, and what it wants or doesn't want. Once you give it form and acknowledge it, she says it can be released and replaced with something more peaceful.

How should I set goals or intentions for the new year?

Candace starts with five to ten minutes each morning noticing the beliefs, mindsets and words in the way. She then sets a specific goal, a non-specific goal about how it will feel, and small playful manifestations, and visualizes for 15 minutes three times a day.
